What Is Average Life Of A RV?

RVs can last for decades, if properly cared and maintained. RV on average can last for 20 years or 200,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is just a number and it can vary depending on the class of your motor home, how well you take care of it, and a few other factors. Also buying a used RV can be good purchase but can become a disaster as well if you don’t know what to look for. When buying a used RV always do a thorough inspection and don’t afraid to ask question related to maintenance.

How Can Your RV last Long Enough?

As RV is part home and part vehicle you have to manage both of the systems to ensure a long life.

Vehicle maintenance

Just like you perform routine maintenance checks on your car you have to perform routine maintenance on your RV.

You should ensure schedule regular check-ups for the following:

  • oil changes

  • tire air pressure checks, rotation, and replacement when needed

  • brake pad checks, change or replace them when needed

  • cleaning of Engine

  • re-alignment of tires

  • needed fuel injections

Living area maintenance

Make sure your living area in the RV is in good working condition.

  • regularly lubricate slide-outs to keep them working smoothly

  • apply UV protectant sealant on rubber weather sealing around slide-outs

  • keep an RV roof sealant kit on-hand for emergency leak repairs

  • use a surge guard between your rig and power outtake to prevent appliance damage

  • Use motor home toilet chemicals every week or two to break down toilet paper and waste while minimizing odors.

  • empty the black tank when it’s at least 3/4 full

  • Wipe and dry shower area after use to prevent growth of mildew and mold.

Roof Maintenance

Roof maintenance is the part of RV ownership but unfortunately it is overlooked by many RVers. Resealing or re coating your RV is the standard part of RV ownership. The life of RV can be enhanced by doing regular cleaning, roof maintenance and applying a coat of best roof sealant for RV like RV Roof Magic.

Before putting your RV under storage

Before storing your RV you have to do the following things first:

  • Always have an air freshener in your motor home to keep things smelling fresh.

· Drain all tanks, especially if you’re storing during cold months, to prevent bursting of pipes.

  • If you’re storing your RV outside, always use a cover it to protect it from the extrusive elements.

· Inspect your RV for cracks and broken seals, and seal those up to prevent water damage.

· Once all tanks and pipes are drained, add anti-freeze to all the tanks, lines, and drains.

What else to do with your motorhome

Since you will put your RV under storage when not in use, it is also a great idea to rent it out. Renting your RV will allow other people to enjoy RV adventures and create memories just as you have. Doing this will also fill your pocket with money which you can use to maintain your RV and upkeep it.
